The DSSO will present an extraordinary evening of chamber music and poetry by Sir William Walton and Dame Edith Sitwell. Members of the Duluth Superior Symphony will be joined by local legends, Vicki Fingalson and Calland Metts, in a performance of Façade; an Entertainment. This rarely-performed work features a chamber ensemble of diverse instruments and the recitation of poetry in rhythm—a sort of pre-rap if you will. A review of the premiere in 1923 stated: “The audience was at first inclined to treat the whole thing as an absurd joke, but there is always a surprisingly serious element in Miss Sitwell’s poetry and Mr. Walton’s music … which soon induced the audience to listen with breathless attention.” Join us in breathless attention!
