The Soldier's Tale

Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra Presents Tenth Concert of the 2023-24 Season, Showcasing Stravinsky’s, ‘The Soldier’s Tale’. A multidisciplinary collaboration with Wise Fool Theater filled with music, theatre, dance, and narration by Jeffrey Madison.

The story of ‘The Soldier’s Tale’ follows a young soldier who trades his fiddle to the devil in exchange for wealth and fortune. The soldier soon learns that his newfound riches come at a steep price, and must outsmart the devil to regain his prized instrument.

General public tickets are priced at $25, while past and active-duty military can enjoy a discounted rate of $10.

Jeffery Madison

Hailed for his dramatic diversity, baritone and stage director, Jeffrey Madison has performed and directed a varied repertoire from grand opera and operetta to musical comedy.  Mr. Madison has performed leading roles with companies including The Minnesota Opera, Minnesota Orchestra, Colorado Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, Seattle Opera Young Artists, Chautauqua Opera, Western Plains Opera, Fargo-Moorhead Opera, and an appearance at Carnegie Hall with the Minnesota Orchestra.  Locally, Mr. Madison has performed with Wise Fool Theater, Lyric Opera of the North, Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra, Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra, and the Duluth Playhouse. Mr. Madison currently serves on the faculty for the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
