Program Notes

It’s a night highlighting the DSSO Strings! The evening opens with composer Jessie Montgomery’s Strum, a work filled with a bluegrass-like feel that explores different methods of string playing, often treating violins and violas like guitars. Concertmaster Erin Aldridge performs Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, a tango-inspired, Argentinian homage to Vivaldi’s famous work. We follow up with Barber’s beautifully ethereal Adagio for Strings and end the evening with a serenade of perpetual motion, as Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings cascades and descends us into a dance of elegant beauty.
