Program Notes

Indulge in an evening of sheer fun and playfulness! Stravinsky’s Pulcinella was inspired by the Commedia dell’arte of 16th century Italy and we meet all the typical characters, from the heartbroken lover to the prankster harlequin. This delightful piece will put us in the right mood for Richard Strauss’ wonderful Horn Concerto, as performed by the DSSO’s principal horn player, Jim Pospisil. Finally, Papa Haydn takes us on a humorous and energy filled trip to Britain, in his Symphony No. 104, the London Symphony.
