PRESS RELEASE: DSSO Announces New Concert Series

Casual Concert

DULUTH, Minnesota – The Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra is thrilled to announce a brand new concert series! Introducing the Casual Concerts, a concert experience designed to give an inviting 45-minute sample of the DSSO. “These fun packed performances will be perfect for families and younger concert-goers. I’m thrilled to bring this new concert format to our Twin Ports audiences!” says Music Director Dirk Meyer.

What: Movie Music Matinee – Casual I
When: Sunday, October 27, 2019 at 3 pm
Where: Symphony Hall at the DECC

The DSSO’s first concert of the series will be on Sunday, October 27th, Movie Music Matinee. This concert will feature a shortened programming of movie scores from the evening before, but will also have some exciting extras like a pre-concert activity where you can ask a musician some of your burning questions, like ‘what is the most difficult thing about playing the bassoon?’ or ‘what is a reed of made of?’ Then stay for the post-concert activity to hear your questions answered and participate in a fun on-stage activity with Music Director Dirk Meyer.
The second Casual Concert will take place on Sunday, March 22nd, 2020, and will feature an afternoon devoted to the legendary Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5.
DSSO Executive Director, Brandon VanWaeyenberghe explains the vision of these concerts, “We understand that there are barriers for families to attend a concert – timing, price, length of a concert. With the casual concerts, we have worked at removing those hurdles to focus on a fun experience with familiar and beloved music. While we may be dressing down, you will continue to receive the best in musical experiences from your DSSO.”
