DULUTH, Minnesota – The Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra continues its Grand Adventures season with their sixth Masterworks concert, Toward the Heavens, sponsored by RSM.
What: Toward the Heavens // Masterworks VI
When: Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 7 pm.
Where: Symphony Hall at the DECC
Music Director Dirk Meyer and the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra are excited to begin the evening’s concert with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2, a joyful composition that highlights the brass and wind sections of the orchestra. A gradual introduction begins this piece, building into a brisk sonata movement with a lively tempo.
The second half of the evening will involve over 200 musicians on stage, as the DSSO Chorus takes to the risers and joins the Orchestra for Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang. This piece was written for the 400th anniversary of the invention of Johannes Gutenberg’s movable printing system and was one of Mendelssohn’s most popular compositions during his lifetime, but has fallen into obscurity.
These two pieces are seldom explored, so be sure to get your tickets for Toward the Heavens.
Tickets start at $20 and are available through the DSSO box office at 130 W Superior St. Suite LL2 120, 218-623-DSSO (3776). Tickets can also be purchased in person at the DECC ticket office – 350 Harbor Drive, or at Ticketmaster.com; taxes and service fees do apply. Student and Military tickets are also available for just $10 with a valid ID.
