Music director Dirk Meyer and the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra are thrilled to be performing pieces from two of Germany’s greatest composers. The evening will begin with Johannes Brahms’ epic Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Orchestra accompanied by rising superstar, pianist Juho Pohjonen. Pohjonen is considered one of Finland’s most outstanding pianists. He has performed with symphony orchestras world-wide and is well-known for his intense and fearless musical conviction during performances. From its rich, spacious opening to its thrilling energetic finale, Brahms’ second concerto will be a definite showcase for Mr. Pohjonen’s talents.
Our travels to Germany will include the continuation of The Beethoven Project with Minnesota Public Radio. The Orchestra will perform and record Ludwig van Beethoven’s exuberant Symphony No. 7, which the composer himself considered, “one of the happiest products of my poor talents.”
