The DSSO and Bent Paddle Brewing Company have teamed up on a very special project – something they’ve been dreaming about since Music Director, Dirk Meyer moved to town in 2012. According to Meyer’s friends in Dusseldorf, he’s “really made it” and they’re jealous! Why? Because thanks to Bent Paddle’s team of creators and thinkers, the “Maestro” now has a beer named after him – his favorite, a Düsseldorf Altbier named DüsselDirk. Brewer Neil Caron who worked with Dirk on January 9th to brew the special German-style beer at Bent Paddle says the beer is “expected to be malt forward with toasted bread and caramel notes supported by a harmonious floral hop character from the German Hallertauer hops used.”
The Symphony and Bent Paddle plan to release this new Altbier on February 3 in two prime locations: Bent Paddle’s Tap Room and the DECC Symphony Hall. February 3rd is an important date for the DSSO, with this year’s Beethoven concert as one of the features of the evening – along with their new DüsselDirk Altbier. It was 6 years ago (just after Meyer’s arrival) that the DSSO inaugurated their first Beerthoven event (Beer and Beethoven)- talk of a Maestro beer began at that time. Four years later the Symphony launched the Beethoven Project – a partnership with Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) to record and rebroadcast all 9 Beethoven Symphonies.
On February 3, the DSSO and MPR will record Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 and launch 3 months of Beerthoven activities. February and March will be busy months for these Beer and Beethoven activities with a culminating Tap Room event at Bent Paddle on Thursday, April 5 in their NEW Tap Room.
Concert attendees will also be treated to Bela Bartok’s Rumanian Folk Dances, along with Manuel de Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain featuring pianist, Spencer Myer. All of this and DüsselDirk Altbier! You won’t want to miss February 3 at the DECC AND at Bent Paddle Brewing Company. Get tickets to the concert here.
Then starting the week of February 5th, and running through March or until supplies last, look for the DüsselDirk Altbier on draft at the Blackwoods group locations, the Spirit Room in Superior and other Twin Ports locations as well as in the Bent Paddle Taproom until April 5th for a night in their new taproom celebrating all things DüsselDirk and the DSSO.
