Marketing Intern

The Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra (DSSO) welcomes applications for the position of Marketing Intern. The DSSO Internship Program offers excellent professional/educational experience and training in the areas of advertising, public relations and marketing. All interns are individually supervised by department staff and will have regular consultations with the Marketing Director. All interns have the option to be involved in day-to-day operations and attend departmental meetings and bi-weekly staff meetings. Duties include clerical and administrative activities such as general correspondence, database management, material distribution, and other duties as assigned. Intern special projects may include writing press releases, helping to coordinate special events, creating promotional offers, assisting with the subscription campaign, aiding in compilation of program book and fulfillment of comp ticket requests.

Interns must demonstrate strong computer skills (proficiency in MS Word and Excel a must, ACT database knowledge a plus), strong written and oral skills, organization skills and the ability to perform multiple tasks with attention to detail. Interns must maintain a professional attitude and be able to interact with an array of personalities. Knowledge of classical music is a plus.

The Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra is the cornerstone of the performing arts in the region. What began in 1932 as a small community orchestra has developed into a fully professional symphony serving audiences across northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. Today the DSSO reaches more than 30,000 people each year. An additional 5,000 children, adults and seniors participate in education and community events annually.

Deadline for intern applications: Internship applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Candidates: Undergraduate students, graduate students or recent graduates.

Compensation: This is an UNPAID internship; however, interns will receive two tickets to each Symphony concert that occurs during their internship, free of charge, subject to availability. Interns may qualify for college credit.

Time: All internships require approximately 15-20 hours per week, during regular business hours (9am. to 5pm) and periodically at DSSO concerts (typically Saturday evenings from 8pm to 10pm). Flexible schedules.
