Young Composer Competition

The 2017 Young Composer Competition has been postponed. Please check back in April for the 2018 project details.

OPEN TO:
Students of age 25 or younger on January 1, 2017.
Must reside or pursue music studies in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Dakota, or South Dakota.

 

COMPOSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a five to six minute complimentary work to L’histoire du soldat by Igor Stravinsky

The instrumentation must be no larger than:
1 clarinet, 1 bassoon
1 trumpet, 1 trombone, percussion, violin and double bass

PRIZE:
Winner will receive $1200 and a performance of the winning composition by the DSSO on our Chamber Music performance in April.
APPLICATION:
Deadline for submissions is February 8, 2017.  Applications will not be accepted prior to January 15, 2017

SELECTION PROCESS:
Evaluation and selection determined by a qualified composer and/or DSSO Music Director. The winner will be notified by February 29, 2016. Please have a short bio and e-photo ready in case you are selected.
